CHANGE BEGINS WITH US!

DEFENSE & VETERAN’S

Our nation’s military has served our country well with integrity and honor. As a nation, we owe them nothing less than the very best. When our veterans return home, there must be a full range of support systems in place. This should include housing and employment opportunities. Support of our veterans should be our government’s top priority.

HOMELESSNESS

The homelessness crisis is unfolding at a rapid pace in every region of Los Angeles County, affecting individuals from all walks of life. Some of our most vulnerable homeless populations are families, veterans and our youths. As a community and as humanitarians, we need to re-evaluate how homelessness is understood. Many working class families and individuals are one paycheck away from becoming homeless. It’s time to stop talking about the problem and do something to create long-term solutions. The United States is the greatest country in the world. We should not have a homelessness problem.
The community of CA 25th district needs to have representation that will stand up to state and local government and ask the hard questions about how funding is being allocated. I believe that instead of spending billions of dollars on a high speed rail, the funding should be invested towards creating real change for the homeless. We need to work together to get resolutions to our most serious concerns.

HEALTH CARE*** (MEDICARE FOR ALL)

The Affordable Care Act focuses on provisions to expand coverage, control health care cost, and improve the health care system. However, nearly 27 million people are still without health insurance because they simply cannot afford it. Repealing the Affordable Care Act of 2010 is not the answer to providing quality health care for all. Yet, the Affordable Care Act is not working for all.
Quality affordable healthcare is the right of all Americans. No one should have to go bankrupt in order to have healthcare. Medicare is more efficient than any private insurance provider and is accepted by 95% of doctors. The Medicare for All plan will provide all Americans with Medicare, increase the number of doctors and care facilities and stop big pharmaceutical companies from gouging American consumers.

GLOBAL CHALLENGES: CLIMATE & SUSTAINABILITY

• Severe weather events

• Water scarcity

• Degradation of the ecosystem

These are signs that climate change has an increasingly direct impact on our planet. America needs to continue to participate in the Paris Climate Agreement to assure that all countries are working together towards the same climate goals. Participation in the Paris Climate Agreement will give the American industries an opportunity to create new markets of climate friendly technology that limits greenhouse gas emissions. It is time for the climate and sustainability to become real goals for our society and American businesses striving to assure a competitive future.

SOCIAL SECURITY & MEDICARE

Throughout the 2016 Presidential campaign, President Trump promised to protect Social Security and Medicare. I stands firm in my position of being against plans to cut, privatize and dismantle Social Security and Medicare benefits as it represent a promise to America’s seniors and future retirees — that after a lifetime of hard work, they can retire with dignity and financial security.

BUILDING A STRONGER COMMUNITY THROUGH ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT & WORKFORCE

When everyone in the workforce has access to the education and training needed to reach their full potential, the productivity of those workers and the overall economy improves. We need to build a competitive workforce for economic growth. Successful efforts to grow our economy require the ability to address skills at all levels.

The more underdeveloped areas of California’s 25th District are in need of workforce and economic development. People should be able to work where they live. Proximity to employment can influence a range of economic and social outcomes, from local fiscal health to the employment prospects of residents, particularly low-income and minority workers. Local and regional leaders need to work towards growing their economies in ways that promote opportunity and upward mobility for all residents.

TRANSPARENCY: UPHOLDING ETHICS IN CONGRESS

• We all need to work together, regardless of party, to put an end to this hostile divide and address the concerns of the people.

• Government needs to show that they are being fiscally responsible with taxpayer dollars.

• Our congressional members need to collaboration with the constituents in order to address real issues concerning our state and the communities within. WE NEED TO TAKE CARE OF HOME FIRST!!!

• As a current State employee, I have had to take ethics training each year. I feel that members of Congress should have to do the same in order to continuously develop and improve upon the moral ethics that is required when making decisions that impact the communities that they serve.

IMPORTANCE OF PROTECTING OUR RIGHT TO VOTE

Protect the voting rights of all citizens by protecting access to vote. Today we face an unsettling reality. Minority voters are still discriminated against at the polls. Our nation has an obligation to uphold the Voting Rights Act for ALL eligible voters.

WE ARE ONE NATION AND WE NEED TO STAND TOGETHER AS A NATION
